It's Been a Pretty Busy Weekend...

With less than six months to go (oh my goodness me!), we have been spending an inordinate amount of our personal time getting things in line for D Day. This weekend's agenda:

Saturday
12 noon - Appointment with jeweller's for wedding bands (ordered!)
3pm - Shopping for shoes (for me) and shirts (for him) for the photoshoot - bought nought
6pm - Recce site for photoshoot (we picked it)
730pm - Final fitting at the bridal studio (more padding for me, an extra jacket for him)

Sunday
12 noon - At the salon for a new look
5pm - More shopping. I eventually find two pairs of shoes, he gets two shirts, a pair of pants, a vest and 2 accessories.
9pm - Discuss bouquet details with Ching over text messaging

And yes, we are still excited and looking forward to the big day. I still can't figure out why people always tell me they aren't excited about their own weddings!

Sweet Disposition...

This. Song. Is. FRIGGING. Incredible.

And the live version is pretty darn good too.

Lyrics:
sweet disposition
never too soon
oh reckless abandon
like no one's
watching you

a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
a kiss, a cry
our rights, our wrongs
a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh

chorus
just stay there
cause i'll be comin over
and while our blood's still young
it's so young
it runs
and we won't stop 'til it's over
won't stop to surrender

songs of desperation
I played them for you
a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
a kiss, a cry
our rights, our wrongs
a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh

chorus:
just stay there
cause i'll be comin over
and while our blood's still young
it's so young
it runs
and we won't stop 'til it's over
won't stop to surrender

a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
a kiss, a cry
our rights, our wrongs (won't stop 'til it's over)
a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
a kiss, a cry
our rights, our wrongs(won't stop 'til it's over)
a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
a kiss, a cry
our rights, our wrongs (won't stop 'til it's over)
a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
a moment, a love
a moment, a love (won't stop to surrender)

I'm Getting Hitched!

Honestly, I don't know why it took me so long to "announce" this here, but yes, The Boyfriend will henceforth be known as The FiancĂ©. Actually no, I never refer to him as that in reality, only sometimes the husband-to-be. So yes, he will hencforce be known as the HTB.

I just got off the phone with the HTB not long ago, after wishing each other Happy Anniversary. We are also counting down to the wedding, with 365 days to go. Yup, we will be married come 4th June next year, 2011. Our seventh anniversary (a good way to ward away the Itch, no?).

The venue's been booked, the bridal package's been purchased, and now we're on the hunt for the car, a photog (got someone in mind already, actually) and a videographer. Exciting, exciting days ahead.

I can't wait!

Wednesday, March 03, 2010

On the way home the other day, I suddenly remembered the S$8,000 Labradoodle we saw at Mt Pleasant animal clinic the other day. Yes, you read right. Eight thousand Singapore dollars.

At the next traffic stop (we were on his bike), I wondered out loud to The Boyfriend: "Why would someone pay S$8,000 for a dog? I wouldn't even pay S$800 for one."

Without skipping a beat (I really don't know how he read my mind), he huffed and said, "Even S$80 is considered too much! There are so many dogs out there you can get for free."

Granted, it could've been more eloquently put, but nonetheless it's true. There're so many dogs out there waiting to find a good home. And many of them have the potential to be good dogs.

And when they make you feel like this:

You know pedigree doesn't mean a thing.

I'll Have a Guinness

The Boyfriend came home after a weekend getaway to be greeted by a sad-looking puppy outside his door. It was corralled in a corner, meek and shy, a captive of his dad who had brought him back from the construction site at which he worked.

He remembered his dad mention that he'd been seeing a cute little pup with his littermates and mum around, and would try to bring him home if he had a chance. But he didn't know his dad had meant what he said!

Sadly, no one wanted to take ownership of the black ball of fur. So back to the construction site the little critter went.

The next afternoon, I received a call from The Boyfriend. "Hey," he said. "How about having a pet with me?"

"You mean the puppy your dad brought home last night?"

"Yup..."

"But I thought no one wanted him, and he brought him back?"

"Yes, but the guy is really very cute, so I thought maybe we should take him in."

"Are you serious? A dog is a very big commitment you know?"

"Yes, so that's why I'm asking you to help me."

"So.. he'll be our dog?"

Again: "Yes."

And just like that, I was sold, without even having seen the puppy. Of course I'd asked The Boyfriend to describe its looks and behaviour, but what really sealed the deal was the fact that this was the closest he'd ever been to an outright long-term commitment with me. Naturally, I melted at the idea.

The puppy, thankfully, turned out very cute, but we were stuck for a name.

"Let's call him Blackie," The Boyfriend offered helpfully.

"No!!! How unimaginative."

I then suggested Bruno, but he didn't want a human name. So we tossed names about, but nothing felt right, and then it was time for me to go home.

Downstairs, a thought suddenly struck me. But I wasn't sure if it was too outlandish a name, or too difficult for his parents to remember Still, it was worth a try.

"How about Guinness?"

"Guinness? As in the men's beverage?"

"Uh-huh. He's mostly black, with bits of brown that reminds me of the foam on top of the drink."

"Hm...!" He said thoughtfully. I could tell he liked the sound of it.

"Let's try it on for size the next couple of days. If we don't like it, or if we think of something else, we can still change it."

But somehow, it stuck. That was two months ago. Guinness, or Guin for short, is now a vivacious, intelligent and mischievous pup. Check out the (amateur) chart below to see how he's grown!

Thoughts of the day

If someone tells you something, but you sense something else, who should you listen to?

If you give someone feedback about themselves, but are wishy-washy about it, you'll probably do more harm than good.

Speculation is slow poison.
